Pakistan Flood Relief

More than 20 million people in Pakistan have lost their homes and livelihoods by extensive flash flooding caused by the severe monsoon season and more than 1,600 have lost their lives. The rains are expected to worsen. Make an emergency gift to support IMI’s efforts to assist survivors in Pakistan.
Please recite a Sura e Fateha for our very valuable member from Karbala e Moalla, Dr Ahmed Baqer Al Attar, MD younger brother of Dr Syed Alaa whose services for IMI's Conference in Karbala are invaluable and commendable. Dr Attar was a gem of a person and was trying IMI to get registered in Iraq. Dr Attar was serving as a General Manager in the Ministry of Non Governamental Affairs. May Allah bless the departed soul through the waseela of Ahlul Bayt,AS and grant sabr to his near and dear ones. His absence will be deeply felt by all who knew him.
With deepest condolences. I.M.I.

Aid for Somalia

With 2011 classified as the driest year on record in the eastern Horn of Africa, the health, livelihoods and food security of millions of Somalis, Ethiopians and Kenyans are at serious risk.  IMI has already acted upon its responsibility to provide help in the affected region.  IMI began collaborations with humanitarian organizations with local networks in August and is working with BETA Charitable Trust and cooperation for Health and Education Programs (CHEP) to provide assistance with food, water, and livelihoods development. Over the last seven weeks, CHEP volunteers personally reached over 11,666 households (89,929 individuals) in 37 villages and refugee camps, and dug shallow wells to provide access to cleaner water for use in farming activities as well.  IMI’s partnership with CHEP and BETA will provide immediate and long-term relief to those affected through continued food distribution and an increase in the rehabilitation of wells and support of livelihoods including farming activities.

IMI International Tobacco Taskforce

IMI's International Tobacco Taskforce invites you to participate in a research project to study the general health and tobacco consumption behavior in the Shia community of North America. We are asking you (smokers AND nonsmokers in the US) to complete the following short questionnaire about your tobacco consumption and general health online.   It should take you only 5 minutes to complete. You must be at least 16 years of age to participate.

Through your participation, we hope to understand tobacco usage behavior and any correlating prevalence of chronic diseases in the American Shia Community. IMI TTF will share these results through published articles in scientific journals, conference presentations and online publications for a wide reach.  We do not know of any risks to you if you decide to participate in this survey but, we guarantee that your responses will not be identified to you personally. We promise not to share any information that identifies you with anyone outside our research group.  Finally, this survey is voluntary and we appreciate your honest participation.
