Costs
As in all previous years, certain costs for IMI’s Annual Arbaeen Medical Mission delegates are being covered by IMI donors and collaborators. Costs are also higher than in previous years. Therefore, please anticipate your costs to include:
Subsidized AAMM16 Packages
AAMM 16 Packages include certain program costs and ground packages with airport to airport arrangements (based on group plans) and 15 days/14 nights of accommodations in Iraq. Because our medical delegation needs are very different from traditional ziyarat kafla needs--our delegates simply need a small space to lay their heads and are focused primarily on serving the zawaar—we arrange simple accommodations.
Our Standard AAMM16 Package is $1450 USD and will include discounted local transport on the group itinerary, meals and 14 nights (15 days) of accommodations at basic, simple hotels that are clean and functional. The hotels will be short 5-10 minute walks from the Haram and the tentative camp location.
To further help manage expenses, particularly for those from dollar conversion inflation economies (eg. Pakistan), IMI also has limited AAMM16 budget packages ($450) that will include shared apartments instead of hotel accommodations in Karbala. These apartments are humble accommodations located approximately 15-20 minutes walk from the camp. The bedrooms would have multiple individuals (6-10) per room with simple mattresses to sleep on.
In addition, for our team members from Pakistan, IMI Pakistan has worked with agents to secure good fares for group tickets for Arbaeen team members from Pakistan. At present the overall USD costing estimates for team members from Pakistan are:

All interested health professionals (especially general practitioners/ family & emergency medicine physicians, cardiologists, respiratory specialists/ pulmonologists, pediatricians) were invited to apply for Medical Staff, pharmacists for Pharmacy Staff, nurses for Nursing Staff, dentists for Dental Staff and non-health professionals or students for Administrative Staff.
This delegation's primary purpose is to provide medical services during Arbaeen. The situation in Iraq is constantly shifting and volatile. You must be flexible with regards to planning and logistics including accommodations, transportation, electricity and other local needs/arrangements. Things constantly change on the ground and our baseline requirement is for all delegates to be patient, flexible and work together despite very intense and challenging conditions. All delegates must also strictly abide by IMI regulations including safety and infection prevention guidelines.
IMI 9th international conference held in Orlando from July 22-24 was a truly memorable event for us. This conference was unique as it encompassed topics that were interesting to medical as well as non-medical groups.
Topics such as Fetal origins of adult cardiovascular disease, depressive disorders, diabetes, back pain, knee crisis, vascular interventions, urinary incontinence, radiology, Quality improvement in health care, medical ethics, kidney disease, biopsychosocial health models were presented by experts in the field and they presented case studies that were relevant to current medical practices.
Conference also addressed the young upcoming youth leaders with an entire track of event dedicated to them. Mentoring was provided by each professional and students got a chance to develop one to one relationship with their mentors. In summary, IMI's yearly conference is not to be missed!
Firstly, thank you all for a wonderful conference in Barbados. The educational content and speakers were excellent and in addition the opportunity for networking was a great bonus. Your hard work and its success was very evident.
I cannot express the profound impact IMI has had on my life: from the incredible opportunity to serve on the Arbaeen Medical Mission to the insightful career guidance and special programs for Young Leaders that I’ve benefitted from!
If InshAllah, I secure a residency in the upcoming match, I will owe the organizers and the speakers at the seminar more than they will take credit for.
IMI has been my outlet for philanthropic work since before I entered into high school. It is through IMI that I see my efforts, here in New Jersey, manifest into something much greater around the world. IMI has helped me realize that ambition alone is not enough to change the world; in order to achieve the changes we wish to see in this world we require ambition, vision, and most importantly execution. That is why I have joined IMI, so that my ambition and vision can meet their execution.
We just wanted to drop you a few lines to say that, myself and Mohammed, had a wonderful time in Orlando. The Hotel was excellent, the flow of the meetings, seminars and speakers was terrific (even for a layman like myself), and the warmth and hospitality of all was moving. Networking opportunities for young and the veterans were available at all times. All the presenters and the speakers were great. The special speakers, the Governor from Georgia and Mehdi Hassan were outstanding, and the dining arrangements were excellent. I have to get the chefs name...to all the people who were involved...thank you so much for all your hard work and dedication
